The first exhibition at Wyndham Art Gallery since Wyndham City Council employed a visual art curator in November 2011. CHRISTMAS HEART was the result of a call-to-arms by curator megan evans in order to launch an exhibition for Christmas. Artists were invited to make a work of art from the traditional Christmas tree. The exhibition also included a 12-foot high Christmas tree in the gallery foyer decorated in black, designed to alert visitors to their carbon footprint during the festive season – it became controversially known as ‘the black Christmas tree’.
The entire exhibition works beautifully in the context of artists trees. It provides a wide range of ‘angles’ related to the tree and its significance for a diverse range of people and cultures Seasons greetings.Colleen
Great that this has got people talking – congratulations to Megan Evans for creating a work that gets people thinking. Well done and bodes well for more great things happening.Anna
It’s wonderful! Elegant, tasteful and above all thought provoking. A great catalyst for thinking about the meaning of Xmas, our needs versus our wants – and those of people much less fortunate than ourselves.Caroline
