LOCAL 2014

Artists: Carol Rowlands, Richard Rowlands

An exhibition of mixed-media works by local artists Carol Rowlands and Richard Rowlands, who are mother and son. Carol worked at the Wyndham City Council for seventeen years as a draftsperson before studying fine art at the Victorian College of the Arts. Her work has a humorous bent, showing the dramas that occupy us day to day. Her latest work uses machine embroidery to paint with stitches. Richard’s ideas come from discarded objects that contain the residue of their former life. Like his mother, he has a quirky sense of humour that comes through in his work where clever puns are used to delight the viewer. He is a self-confessed hoarder or collector of unusual objects and his studio is filled with curious artefacts that wait to be remade into art. They are both award-winning artists who have exhibited widely and been involved in running artist-run initiatives in Melbourne.
